What we could do if we cut the military by 90% (thus saving $500 billion a year):

1) Pay for health care for every man, woman, child (including all illegal immigrants) in the United States.

2) Pay for 100% of every college student’s college expenses, including a stipend for non-school-related living expenses.

3) Fund a renewable energy program that’d, at the minimum, provide 30% of the nation’s energy in 10 years.

These are all without raising taxes, and without any hardships except for those in the military who would lose their jobs. Additionally, the new jobs created would serve to cushion the landing of all those lost jobs.
